Blogmas Day 2 – Sewing Decorations

Hello everybody!! Today, I was taught how to use a sewing machine for the first time ever on a SINGER Serenade 2250. Sounds so nerdy, right? This good aul German product is still intact despite that we’ve had it for a few years now and it’s better than ever! I especially loved the little light above the needle and it even came with a tiny little brush set for polishing. So satisfying!
I have gotten a lot of Christmassy materials a few weeks ago for the purpose of exactly this, sewing decorations for myself and for presents. I think this is such a lovely touch and even though material (the nice ones) cost a fortune, if you have a lot of decorative friends or loads of elderly people in your family, there is nothing they will appreciate more than a good handmade piece of art.
My plan is to make tiny little pillows out of my material and stuff them with cotton wool, then hang them up into a garland over mantelpieces, mirrors and basically wherever you want to. I saw an idea similar to this at the Knitting and Sewing Convention (I know. People do that? And I went? It was super fun and boding time with my Mom though) and absolutely loved it. They also sold these cutie garlands for around €30 which was soo expensive and I thought, I can do that for quarter of the price! Only lucky that we had aul SINGER collecting dust in the house, with her it was a piece of cake.
I’m not yet finished but have decided upon my success and speed(!!!) that I will make lots more, and maybe even sell them at a little Christmas Car-boot Sale. My next step is to buy loads of cotton wool balls in town and stuff the little pockets then sew it up and onto the string they go. I will post the finished piece at a later date (hopefully only a few days) but here is what I got up to while listening to some good old seasonal tunes!
